The Christian Leadership Foundation

“All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Rev. John C. Maxwell said, “The true measure of leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.” And that is what we Christians do all day. But what kind of relationships are being development? How do we come across to others? How do others feel about themselves when they are around us?

DISC Biblical Models

High-I Optimistic and Outgoing: (David, Barnabas, Peter, Aaron)

High-D Direct and Decisive: (Paul, Solomon, Stephen, Joshua)

High-S Sympathetic and Co-operative: (Abraham, Nehemiah, Jacob, Isaac)

High-C Concerned and Correct: (Luke, Moses, Elijah)

Positive Biblical Role Models

Counselor Pattern – Barnabas – Acts 4:36-37; Acts 9:26-27; Acts 15:36-41.

Counselors are approachable, affectionate, and understanding people. The Levite Joseph so exemplified these attributes that the Apostles named him Barnabas, Greek for “Son of Encouragement.” Counselors respond readily to the needs of others, such as when Barnabas sold land and placed the money at the Apostles' feet.

Alert to others, counselors frequently put in a good work for an otherwise unnoticed or untried co-worker. They are tolerant and work hard to keep everyone happy. Sometimes this tolerance is negative, which we see when Barnabas restricted his fellowship with gentiles, rather than affront his Jewish friends.

Counselors generally have an optimistic outlook and see the good side of people. We see this in Barnabas' good side of people. We see this in Barnabas' good report of Paul, even through the other disciples still feared the ex-Pharisee. Later Barnabas has a similar commitment to John Mark when he opposed the strong-minded Paul. Barnabas' unconditional love and belief in people are examples of how the important his profile is the body of Christ.

Creative Pattern – Paul – Galatians 2; Acts 15

Persons with a Creative Pattern display opposite force in their behavior. Their desire for tangible results is counterbalanced by an equally strong drive for perfection. They set the pace in developing new and unusual ideas, usually seeking power and challenges. Paul, the Creative pattern, shows these traits when he preaches that the burden of the law was replaced by the freedom of grace. His new and untried mission took him to distant lands and people that were sometimes hostile, but Paul persisted and succeeded.

Creative persons are detailed and meticulous leaders who can be blunt and critical. They can be destructive, as Paul was before his conversions, but they can also use their strong characteristics to confront issues that others avoid. We see this in Paul's writing and his discussion of the problems among his young churches.

When a strong Creative pattern to correct others loving – as God helped Paul do through his dealings with Peter, Barnabas, and John Mark – they are a tremendous testimony and building force.

(Paul and Barnabas had compete opposite leadership styles, but they were a great team.)
